New York City, a place with over 8 million people living in the centre. And that, between residential and business, generates around 8 million tons of rubbish (trash) to deal with. Recycling is expensive still, so about 75% is shipped out of NY state and sent to landfill elsewhere in America. However, wherever you walk downtown, and whatever the time of day, you are faced with mounds of never ending trash. Attractive....not.
