Shot entirely on the New York subway, this gallery gives you an good sense of how it is. For many years it really wasn't safe, but now it's no problem. It is still, however, rather low tech compared to the rest of the world. Yes, it has atmosphere, but most other things are quite basic. Having said that, it's old fashioned card swipe entry system is actually tracked, and has got people off crimes because it can be used as an alibi in court. And the card entry system is a step up from the plastic token entry they used to have until comparatively recently. Thieves used to jam the turnstiles and suck (yes suck!!) the tokens out of the slots ! In the end, the slots were smeared with chilli etc, to stop that particular scam. And the MTA will actually fax or email a letter to your office if one of their trains makes you late for work !
