Mainly taken in Sri Lanka and Thailand, I really have an affection for these rather abused animals. But rather than focus on man's inhumanity, here's a handful of elephant facts. It's trunk has around 40,000 muscles in it, and no bones. They can live up to around 70 years old. They can swim. They eat for around 16 hours a day. They can detect water from 12 miles away. They can get sunburnt. They can hear an elephant trumpeting from around 5 miles away. Elephants are pregnant for almost 2 years. An elephant's skin can be 1 inch thick, but so sensitive it can feel a fly land on it. I love these creatures, and hate the poachers who still think it's OK to kill them. One last fact. Elephants mourn.
