Highgate Cemetery, north London, established 1839, is said to have over 70,000 bodies laid to rest. But here, with its long history and many famous people buried, the trees are the stars. There's been a number of horror movies filmed here, but with the white winter sky, and bare but well developed trees, the roots push the graves and stones in many directions, giving a sense of Gothic horror without adding any effect. That, and the persisting rumours of vampire activity that goes back to the 1960's.
