Beach huts go back to the days when changing in public to bathe was frowned upon, and usually regarded as immoral and illegal. Changing huts on large wheels were the norm, but the beach hut we know started when some enterprising people removed the wheels and gave them a permanent position. They were out of fashion for many years, but are now quite expensive, and usually somewhat unused in winter. These are some unused huts on a bleak winter beach in Bournemouth.
